SOLVING THE WEE HOURS, 2-DAY

CNVD and low light operations for the police sniper.

The necessity for police snipers to be capably ready for anything, at any time, has never been greater.  The requirement for sniper coverage, whether for information gathering, force protection, or a lethal solution, has been increasing steadily for the last 2 decades and shows no sign of slowing down.  This means that we must be accountable to any circumstance regardless of environment, access, the heinousness of the crime, or the time of day.  The latter is the subject of this course. Snipers are expected to respond and contribute to all tactical incidents that their teams are tasked with.  This includes incidents that occur in low light/no light and those that begin in daylight and extend into darkness.  Night vision for snipers (the whole team, really) is a required and necessary piece of equipment, not an option.  Let’s not forget what you’re being asked for and paid to do, the countless hours spent training and away from home, and the sacrifices your family has made so you can be one of the elite among policemen.  You MUST have the tools that contribute to success.

The purpose of this course is to provide education and proficiency.

o       Education:

  •   Technical knowledge.

  •   Quantifiable data from testing.

  •   Device selection.

  •   Means of acquisition.

o     Proficiency:

  •   Device operation and nomenclature.

  •   Application to weapon platform.

  •   Coordinated use with accessories that maximize usability.

  •   Tactics and techniques that maximize capability.

  •   Scenario-based exercises that prove/disprove the above and build confidence in the system.

Solving the Wee Hours will be conducted over the course of 2 nights.  Day 2 will be dominated by practical exercises where use of your NV devices will be required.  Upon completion, each sniper will have the ability to competently use their clip-on night vision device to the maximum extent possible, within the limitations of their weapon platform, device capabilities, and personal skill.  Those who are not issued these devices will leave with a comprehensive understanding of available night vision devices and guidance in acquisition, testing, and proposal writing in addition to hands-on experience with course devices.
