VEHICLE HIDE COURSE, 2 DAYS
Police snipers are increasingly required to provide observational and lethal coverage to a growing number of customers. From tactical operations involving search warrants and barricaded suspects to undercover officers meeting with nefarious characters to large public gatherings like political rallies and concerts the need for mobility comes hand-in-hand with the necessity for low visibility deployment, effective fields of observation and fire, and rapid response. Mobile vehicle hide construction and use can provide a solution to changing circumstances allowing the sniper to relocate quickly. This is accomplished by the hide site being built inside the vehicle, where all his equipment is, and the expediency of using the vehicle to move him quickly to another viewpoint. Vehicle hides are an underused tactic by police snipers and although not without limitations, can expand their usefulness and create a degree of flexibility that their teams and commanders need.
This course is broken into 2 blocks: principles and techniques on day 1 followed by practical application on day 2. It is designed to introduce the fundamentals behind the selection, construction, occupation, and employment of police sniper vehicle hides. Much of this is common sense and relatively easy to grasp by the creative personalities that tend to attract tactical officers to the sniper role. However, trial and error in training combined with live employment and testing both domestically and abroad have brought to light specific techniques, material selection, and decision making that create a system an officer can put to work immediately and avoid the common pitfalls that plague first exposure. This course covers those things and steepens the learning curve to allow him to be more quickly successful and provide the coverage their teammates require as a pre-planned event or on-call.
